Publix Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in Publix Premium Coffee Almond Fudge Light Ice Cream

LAKELAND, Fla., July 13, 2001 -Publix Super Markets Inc. is voluntarily recalling Publix Premium Coffee Almond Fudge Light Ice Cream half gallon carton sell-by date: 15 NOV 01, 12-444.

This product may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Publix Spokesperson Lee Brunson said, "Through our internal quality assurance process we were able to recover most of the affected product. Although only 216 cartons were shipped to a limited area of stores, as a precaution we are recalling all product within this sell-by date purchased in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama."

Brunson said, "We are working very closely with the Food and Drug Administration and our manufacturing facility to resolve this situation with accuracy and expedience."

The company has received one complaint regarding this product.

Publix is encouraging all customers who purchased the affected product to return the product to their store for a full refund or replacement.
