Quality Plus Products, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg Yolk in Jackson's Quality Plus Smoked Wild Salmon Spread

Bellingham, WA - August 16, 2001 -- Quality Plus Products, Inc. of Bellingham, WA, is recalling its 7 oz. containers of "Smoked Wild Salmon Spread" because they may contain undeclared egg yolk. People who have allergies to egg yolk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "Smoked Wild Salmon Spread" was distributed in northwest Washington state retail foods markets.

The product comes in a 7 ounce clear plastic container with a white lid with the label on top and an expiration date on the side of the carton. All expiration dates are included.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg yolk-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg yolk. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

Production of the product has been suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased 7 ounce cartons of "Jackson's Quality Plus Smoked Wild Salmon Spread" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 360-734-1275.
