Safeway Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Lucerne Mud Pie Ice Cream

Pleasanton, CA - March 29, 2000 - Safeway Inc. announced today it is voluntarily recalling one-half gallon Lucerne Mud Pie Ice Cream. The ice cream is sold in square cartons (paperboard containers) and identified with the code date of Nov 6 2000, which is located on the end panel of the carton.

The product is being recalled because it contains peanuts which are not listed on the ingredient label. Peanuts may cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in some people. There has been no report of any illness.

The product may have been distributed in Northern California, Western Nevada, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.

Consumers who have half-gallon Lucerne Mud Pie Ice Cream with the code information stated above may return a clean, empty carton to their local store for a refund. Consumers with questions may call (925) 944-4056.
