SanCo Foods Issues Allergy Alert for Undeclared Eggs in Selected Refrigerated Sandwiches
NORTH CANTON, OH - March 2, 2001 - SanCo Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling its BBQ BEEF RIB, CHEESEBURGER, and DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER sandwiches, individually packaged under the Pic-A-Deli label, due to undeclared dried whole eggs. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
All pull dates of 2-28-2001 through 3-14-01 are affected by this recall. The product is packaged in clear plastic cellophane under the Pic-a-deli brand label. No other Pic-A-Deli sandwiches are subject to this voluntary recall.
The recalled sandwiches were distributed into central Ohio and surrounding states and are sold in convenience stores and vending machines.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that dried whole eggs were inadvertently omitted from the ingredient statement on the label. The company has received no reports of illness. Consumers who are not allergic or highly sensitive to eggs may safely eat these products.
Consumers who wish to return the products may do so at their local retailers for a full refund or exchange. The company has notified its representatives to remove or re-label unsold product from store shelves. Consumers with questions may call the company toll-free at: 1-800-336-3755.
