Stella D'Oro Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Almonds in Stella D'Oro Anisette Toast Cookies
East Hanover, NJ, February 1, 2002 -- Stella D'Oro Biscuit Company of East Hanover, NJ, is recalling 6.5 oz. Stella D'Oro Coffee Treats Anisette Toast Cookies with the code 2163 AB101, because it may contain undeclared almonds. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds or other nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The Stella D'Oro Coffee Treats Anisette Toast Cookies with the code 2163 AB101 was distributed in retail grocery stores in the following states: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The 6.5 oz. Stella D'Oro Coffee Treats Anisette Toast Cookies with the code 2163 AB101 is in a clear plastic package. There has been one report of an allergic reaction to the product. No other Stella D'Oro products are part of the recall.
The company is recalling the product because consumers reported finding almond cookies in a Stella D'Oro Anisette Toast Cookies package. Because of a packaging error during the manufacturing process, some packages of Stella D'Oro Coffee Treats Anisette Toast cookies with the code 2163 AB101 contain almonds.
Consumers with an allergy to almonds or other nuts should not eat 6.5 oz. Stella D'Oro Coffee Treats Anisette Toast Cookies with the code 2163 AB101 and should return the product to the store where purchased for a full refund, or call 1-800-433-9361.
