Allergy Alert - "Five Stars Aeroplane Brand" Palm Seeds in Syrup

Brooklyn, NY - August 25, 2000 - Vasinee Food Corporation is recalling 300 cartons of Palm Seeds in Syrup (Five Stars Aeroplane Brand) 20 oz. can because product contains undeclared sulfites.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Product was distributed in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing sulfites was distributed in tin can that did not reveal the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Analphylatic shock can occur in certain sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Palm Seeds in Syrup self revealed that it contained 32 milligrams per serving.

Consumers who have 20 oz. tin can of Palm Seeds in Syrup can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (718) 349-6911.
