Advance Foods International Recalls Shahzada Raisins Due to Undeclared Sulfites

Maspeth, NY - February 21, 2002 -- Advance Foods International is recalling 7 oz. packages of Shahzada raisins because the product contains undeclared sulfites.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by NYS Agriculture and Markets food inspectors discovered that the product contained sulfites that were not indicated on the packaging label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics, anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of Shahzada raisins revealed that it contained 59.6 mgs. per serving.

Consumers who have 200 grams (7 oz.) plastic bags of Shahzada raisins can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-482-0123.
