American Importing Company, Inc. Recalls 16 oz. Packages of Orchard Reserve Dried Apricots
Minneapolis, MN - November 22, 2002 -- American Importing Company, Inc. of Minneapolis, MN is voluntarily recalling 16 ounce packages of Orchard Reserve Dried Apricots, because they may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The Orchard Reserve Apricots were distributed in New York State through King Kullen and Food Emporium stores.
The whole dried apricots are packed in a clear, round plastic tub, with a clear lid. The top label reads "Orchard Reserve Apricots" in black and gold lettering, and Amport Foods underneath. Along the edge of the label it reads: Distributed by: American Importing Co., Minneapolis, MN 55413. The bottom label contains the nutrition facts, and "Enjoy by: 04.02.2004."
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after testing by New York State found the presence of sulfites in the product which was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites on the label. This would be a concern to only persons allergic to sulfites. Only the product with an "Enjoy by date of 04.02.2004" is included in this recall.
Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place
of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company
