Anhing Corporation Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in "Preserved Ginger Sliced"

Los Angeles, CA - February 19, 2002 -- Anhing Corporation of Los Angeles, CA, is recalling its 8.8-ounce packages of Caravelle Brand "Preserved Ginger Sliced" because they contain undeclared sulfites. People who have allergies to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "Preserved Ginger Sliced" was distributed nationwide in retail stores.

The product comes in an 8.8 ounce, clear plastic tray labeled on top "Caravelle Brand Preserved Ginger Sliced Product of Vietnam".

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the sulfite-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of sulfites.

Importation of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased 8.8-ounce packages of "Caravelle Brand Preserved Ginger Sliced" are urged to return them to the place of purchase where labels will be placed on the container declaring the presence of sulfites, or if desired a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 323-221-8003.
