Voluntary Recall of Mislabeled April Hill Frozen Cookie Dough Expanded as a Precaution to Include Fall Harvest Cookies

April Hill Theme Cookie Cutouts That Do Not List Egg in the Ingredients Include Fall Harvest Frozen Cookie Dough; Recall Applies to Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia

ST. LOUIS, MO.--Dec. 27, 2001--Sara Lee Bakery Group has expanded its voluntary recall of 5.99-pound cartons of frozen April Hill Theme Cookie Cutouts to include Harvest season cookies in the shapes of pumpkins and apples because eggs are not listed as an ingredient on the package.

Consumption of these products by people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs may result in a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. This product only poses a hazard to egg-sensitive individuals.

Sara Lee Bakery Group is working together with the FDA in undertaking a voluntary recall of this product and also has notified the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network.

The 72-count packages of April Hill Harvest cookies had already been removed from grocery shelves, but they may remain in consumers' freezers. The cookies are safe for consumption except for people with allergies or sensitivity to eggs. There have been no consumer complaints regarding the Harvest cookies. The recall is being expanded as a precautionary measure.

The 5.99-pound packages were sold exclusively during the fall season at GFS Marketplace Stores in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio and to Gordon Food Service customers in those four states as well as Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The packages carry the April Hill brand name and are not marketed under the Sara Lee name.

April Hill 5.99-pound cartons of Holiday cookies in the shapes of bells, trees and stars were previously recalled because of the mislabeled egg content.

The recall only applies to 5.99-pound April Hill cartons of 72 preformed frozen sugar cookies in Harvest and Holiday shapes. No other brands, products or sizes are involved in this recall. All April Hill products that declare "egg" in the ingredient panel are not affected.

Consumers may return the cookies to any GFS Marketplace store for a full refund. Consumers who have any questions or concerns should call Sara Lee Bakery Group toll-free at (800) 449-4284 (Extensions 8626, 8656 or 8676) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
