Auerbach, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in Auerpak Brand Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Hackensack, NJ - January 17, 2003 -- Auerbach, Inc. of Hackensack, New Jersey, is recalling Auerpak Sun-Dried Tomatoes because the product may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious reaction if they consume these products.

Auerpak Sun-Dried Tomatoes are packaged in an uncoded 3-ounce plastic box.

Twelve cases of Sun-Dried Tomatoes were distributed by Bozzuto's Inc., a wholesale grocery distributor, to stores in New York and Connecticut. All stores that have received the product have been alerted by Bozzuto's about the recall and instructed to return the product.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Agricultural Markets Food Inspector discovered the sun dried tomatoes contained excessive levels of sulfites which were not declared on the container label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased Auerpak Sun-Dried tomatoes are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the labeling department at Auerbach, Inc. at (201) 807-9292.
