Awrey Bakeries Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg in 2 Ounce Biscuits

Livonia, Michigan - January 8, 2002 -- Awrey Bakeries, Inc. of Livonia, Michigan, is recalling:

Awrey product number 1019, Smart & Final Brand 2 ounce Buttermilk Biscuit (frozen, 10 dozen fully baked biscuits sold by the case only by Smart & Final).

The products are being recalled because of undeclared egg in the formula. Although the amount of egg in the product is extremely small, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The biscuits are poly wrapped in a corrugated case and were distributed only in Florida.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

The recall was initiated after the manufacturer discovered that the ingredient statement on the label did not list eggs.

Consumers who are allergic to eggs and have purchased any of these products are urged to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-734-513-4260. This product is being recalled in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
