FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Livonia, MI -- May 26, 2004 -- Due to Paramount Farms recall of raw almonds, Awrey Bakeries, Inc. of Livonia , Michigan is recalling, as a precautionary measure, Tropical Chocolate Cake which contains diced almonds from Paramount Farms due to possible contamination with Salmonella enteriditis which can cause life threatening illness or death. This recall is due to Paramount Farms recall of raw almonds. Awrey Bakeries, Inc. is currently cooperating with the FDA as part of the investigation surrounding the Paramount Farms recall of natural raw almonds. We are taking a proactive and aggressive approach to recovering the affected product in order to assure the safety and well being of our customers, as well as to avoid any possible confusion about the safety of these products. Paramount Farms is in the midst of a recall of their almond products due to possible contamination with Salmonella enteriditis which can cause life threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product.
The Tropical Chocolate Cake was distributed to retail customers solely from the Livonia , Michigan Outlet Store.
All Tropical Chocolate Cakes purchased at the Outlet Store between November 11, 2003 and May 25, 2004 are included in the recall. The cakes are packaged in paperboard cartons and are labelled Tropical Chocolate Cake.
No illnesses have been reported to date due to consumption of Awrey’s Tropical Chocolate Cake. However, illnesses have been reported due to consumption of raw almonds from Paramount Farms.
