Allergy Alert - "Wang Derm Brand" Sour Bamboo Shoot
Brooklyn, NY - April 11, 2000 - Vasinee Food Corporation is recalling 200 cartons of Sour Bamboo Shoot packed in 12 x 32 oz. (2 lbs) plastic jars because the product contains undeclared sulfites.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The product was distributed in Tri States area.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product containing sulfites was distributed in plastic jars that did not reveal the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite-sensitive individuals upon digesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Sour Bamboo Shoot self revealed that it contained 10.9 milligrams per serving.
Consumers who have 32 oz (2 lbs) plastic jars of "Wang Derm Brand" Sour Bamboo Shoot can return the product to the place of purchase for full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718/349-6911.
