Consumer Alert: Undeclared Eggs In Black Bean Moon Cake

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Brooklyn, NY -- October 8, 2003 -- State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today issued an alert to consumers who are sensitive to eggs not to consume Black Bean Moon Cake manufactured by Y.J.X. Bakery, Inc., 128 B Mott Street, New York, New York 10013 due to the presence of undeclared eggs. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Black Bean Moon Cake is packaged in a 6-ounce, uncoded plastic container. The product is sold in the New York City area.

A routine investigation by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the product contained eggs that were not declared on the label. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who are allergic to eggs and purchased Black Bean Moon Cake are urged to return it to the place of purchase.
