Ben & Jerry's Voluntarily Initiates The Recall of Pints of Karamel Sutra Ice Cream With Code 02/14/04
South Burlington, VT (March 28, 2003) - Ben & Jerry's is voluntarily recalling certain Karamel Sutra Ice Cream pints because they may contain undeclared peanuts, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The Ben & Jerry's Karamel Sutra Ice Cream pints were distributed to retail
stores nationally, and were not exported outside of the United States. No related
illnesses have been reported to date. The situation is being fully investigated
and corrected.
The affected Karamel Sutra Ice Cream Pints of are dated 02/14/04.
The code date appears on the bottom of the package as the month/date/year at
the beginning of the second line of the
black printing.

No other Ben & Jerry's products are included in this recall.
"Our primary concern is always for the health and safety of our consumers," stated Yves Couette, President and CEO of Ben & Jerry's. "We believe the voluntary recall of this product is in their best interest."
Ben & Jerry's has notified all affected distributors and retail customers, as well as the Food Allergy Network. Consumers who have purchased the product carrying the codes listed above should discard it, and then call Ben & Jerry's 24-hour, toll-free Hot Line at 877-995-4716 for a full refund, or return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
