Brownies with Undeclared Eggs Voluntarily Recalled from Glen's and Ashcraft's Markets
Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 7, 2000 - Officials for Spartan Stores, Inc. have voluntarily recalled five brownie products from Glen's and Ashcraft's Markets because the product labels do not disclose eggs as an ingredient. Other than to egg-sensitive consumers, the products being recalled are safe for consumption. While the company has received no reports of illness, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
To avoid purchase by egg-sensitive consumers, the products with the undisclosed ingredient were removed from the shelves in the 30 affected stores on Monday Nov. 6, 2000.
The products were labeled in the stores so the labels are marked Glen's or Ashcraft's Market. Spartan Stores, Inc. owns and operates Glen's and Ashcraft's Markets but no Spartan brand, Home Harvest or other national brand products are affected by this recall.
The following brownies contain eggs that are not listed on the ingredients statement and all have sell-by dates of Nov. 1 through Nov. 11:
The recall was initiated after a label check revealed eggs were not listed as an ingredient in five brownie products.
Consumers who have purchased any one of the five brownie products can return the product(s) to any Glen's or Ashcraft's Market for a full refund.
Consumers with questions can contact Spartan Stores' Consumer Connections at 800-451-8500.
