Calder Brothers Dairy Inc. Issues an Allergy Alert on Egg Yolks and Food Coloring

Lincoln Park, Michigan - August 15-2002 -- Calder Brothers Dairy Inc. of Lincoln Park, Michigan is recalling its half gallon plastic tubs of Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream due to undeclared egg yolk.

Also, half gallon tubs of Orange Pineapple, Mint Chocolate Chip and Cotton Candy ice cream because they may contain undeclared food coloring such as Yellow No. 5 & 6, Red # 40 and Blue #1.

People who have allergies to egg yolks run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled ice cream was distributed in southeastern Michigan through our store and home delivery. The products come in plastic half gallon tubs marked with the following lot numbers:

Orange Pineapple: 012903, 010803, 120502, 112802 & 092002
Mint Chocolate Chip: 020603, 112902, 092702
Cotton Candy: 122602 & 102902
Strawberry Cheesecake: 112802

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after a label review which revealed that the ice cream products were distributed in packaging which did not reveal the presence of egg yolks and food coloring.

Consumers who have purchased half gallon tubs of the above-mentioned ice creams are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 313-381-8858.
