Berlin, PA - April 20, 2000 - Snyder of Berlin announced that, as a precaution, it is voluntarily recalling 202 cases of its 10-oz Naturally Good Low Fat Caramel Corn product because it may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The 10-oz. Naturally Good Low Fat Caramel Corn was distributed in seven states, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
The recalled product carries the following code: 42May22, found directly below a pre-printed price of $1.79, on the front of the package. No other Snyder of Berlin products are affected by this recall. The recall was initiated after it was reported that product containing peanuts was distributed in packaging that did not declare peanuts as an ingredient. One consumer contact was received and no illnesses have been reported to date. Preliminary investigation indicates that the problem may have been caused by a temporary breakdown in the production and packaging process of a company that packages this product for Snyder of Berlin.
The Company's findings were reported to the Food and Drug Administration and also to the Food Allergy Network (www.foodallergy.org) (703-691-3179), which provides alerts to allergy sensitive individuals.
