Carriage House Companies Recalls Food Club Tartar Sauce Due to Undeclared Eggs

Fredonia, N.Y. - March 20, 2003 -- The Carriage House Companies, Fredonia, N.Y., is recalling 5,500 cases of Food Club brand Tartar Sauce in eight-ounce jars due to the presence of undeclared eggs. People who have an allergy to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

Food Club Tartar Sauce was sold at the following supermarkets: Piggly Wiggly, Dicks Supermarkets, P&C, Quality Markets, Big M, Big Bear Plus, Bi-Lo/Riverside and Food City. These stores are located in Illinois, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Food Club Tartar Sauce is sold in eight-ounce glass jars with UPC code 36800 18438. The company identified on the label is Topco Assoc., Skokie, Ill. All lot numbers are included in the recall.

This recall was initiated after it was discovered that Tartar Sauce containing eggs was distributed with labeling that fails to declare eggs in the ingredient statement.

There has been one reported illness to date.

Consumers who purchased this product should return it to the retail store where it was purchased for a full refund. Consumers seeking more information can call The Carriage House Consumer Affairs Department at (716) 673-8397.
