Consumer Alert - Vegetarian Chicken Salad

New York - April 14, 2000 - State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today issued an alert to consumers who are sensitive to eggs not to consume Nature Boy Vegetarian Chicken Salad and Nature Boy Vegetarian Chicken Salad Sandwiches manufactured by Nature Boy Foods, 81 Ludlow Street, New York, New York 10002 because they have been found to contain undeclared eggs. The manufacturer has agreed to voluntarily recall both of these products.

The Department's Division of Food Safety and Inspection sampled and tested the products revealing the presence of undeclared eggs. The Nature Boy Vegetarian Chicken Salad is packaged in a 6.5 oz. clear plastic tub with a plastic lid and a small sticker indicating the Code 4 28. The Nature Boy Vegetarian Chicken Salad Sandwich is packaged on a paper tray in a 5.5 oz. clear plastic bag with a small sticker indicating the code 4 27. These products were distributed in the New York Metropolitan area, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The consumption of eggs by allergic individuals has been reported to elicit severe reactions. Life threatening anaphylactic shock can occur in certain egg sensitive individuals upon consumption of eggs and products containing eggs.

No illnesses or adverse reaction resulting from the consumption of this product have been reported.

Consumers who are allergic to eggs and may have purchased these products should not consume them. They should either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
