Products Carousel, Inc., Recalls "Pets Carousel 100% Choo-Hooves Pressed Sticks - Item #90010-S" Because of Possible Health Risk

Sanger, CA - June 6, 2000 - Products Carousel, Inc. is recalling "Pets Carousel 100% Choo-Hooves Pressed Sticks - Item #90010-S" because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

"Pets Carousel 100% Choo-Hooves Pressed Sticks" was distributed in Arizona and Ohio by Petsmart retail stores.

"Pets Carousel 100% Choo-Hooves Pressed Sticks" - Item #90010-S" is two (2) pressed sticks in a vinyl bag with a header card.

The recall is a result of a routine sampling program by Products Carousel, Inc., which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria. Products Carousel, Inc. has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continues their investigation as to what caused the problem.
