Duck Delivery Produce, Inc. Recalls Apple Snack Trays Because of Possible Health Risk
Portland, OR - March 27, 2001 - Duck Delivery Produce, Inc. is recalling its 50 oz. and 16 oz. containers of Sliced Apples with Caramel Dip, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Containers of sliced apples with caramel dip were distributed in retail stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
The sliced apples with caramel dip come in either a 50 oz., clear round plastic container or a 16 oz. clear rectangular plastic container. The product being recalled is labeled "Apple Tray 50 oz." or "Apple Snack 16 oz." on the bottom of the container. The label on the recalled product states: "Distributed by Duck Delivery Produce, Inc." with a "Use by 4/11/01" or prior.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The apples that may possibly contain the contamination were purchased by Duck Delivery Produce, Inc. from Fresh Products Northwest, LLC (Fresh Products 3/23/2001 recall). The potential for contamination was noted after routine analysis of recent samples by Fresh Products Northwest, LLC. Fresh Products Northwest, LLC and Duck Delivery Produce, Inc. are working closely with the Food and Drug Administration to assure that customers are properly alerted and that all product is withdrawn from store shelves and warehouses.
Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return any unused product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Duck Delivery Produce, Inc. continuously strives to provide only the safest and highest quality products to its consumers. Anyone with questions and comments may call our Recall Manager, Tim Kraus at 800-452-2481.
