D&V; Trading Inc. Recalls "D&V;" Brand and "JoJomo" Brand Assorted Konnyaku Jelly

Oakland, CA - August 15-2002 -- D&V Trading Inc. of Oakland California is recalling "D&V" and "JoJomo" brands of Lychee, Mango, Taro and Assorted Flavors Nata De Coco Konnyaku Jelly. The products are sold in 53 oz. plastic jars, and 8.8 oz. and 10 oz. plastic packages. The product is contained in individual plastic mini-gel cups with a peel back lid.

These products are being recalled because they contain the ingredient "Konjac". The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Food and Drug Administration consider this type of candy to pose a serious choking risk, particularly to infants, children, and elderly. Local authorities have reported at least three children's deaths from choking in the United States associated with this type of jelly candy. There have also been reports of deaths in other countries.

Product was distributed to retail stores in local areas of Northern California. Consumers may have purchased the product through these retail stores.

Consumers who have purchased "D&V" or "JoJomo" brands of Konnyaku (or Konjac) Jelly candies are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Lucy Liu at the recalling firm at (510) 303-6156.
