Allergy Alert Issued on Undeclared Whey in Fleischmann's Unsalted Stick Margarine

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Oct. 15, 2001 - ConAgra Dairy Foods of Downers Grove, Ill., is voluntarily recalling 3,600 pounds of Fleischmann’s Unsalted Stick Margarine with UPC Code 298370 because the product may contain an undeclared dairy ingredient. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy products may run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Affected product was distributed in a small number of stores in the following states and is already in the process of being removed from those store shelves:

Connecticut,
New York,
Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, and
Delaware.

This Fleischmann’s Unsalted Stick Margarine can be identified with the “best if used by” date on the carton of APR 15 02 EN 15 with time codes between 06:30 and 08:00. One allergic reaction has been reported. Other than to dairy sensitive consumers or to consumers on a sodium free diet, the product being recalled is safe for consumption.

This product is being recalled in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). ConAgra Dairy Foods is concerned about the health of its consumers; therefore, we encourage those individuals who are allergic to dairy products to return the above-coded unsalted stick margarine to the store where purchased for a full refund.
