Fortuner's Food Company, Inc. Recalls Dried Lily Flower
Brooklyn, NY - July 16, 2001 -- Fortuner's Food Co., Inc. is recalling 4,000 packages of Dried Lily Flower because the product contains undeclared sulfites.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Product was distributed in the New York City area.
Fortuner's Dried Lily Flower is distributed in a uncoded, heat sealed 6 oz. plastic bag.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture and Markets that the product contained sulfites and was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Dried Lily Flower revealed that it contained 84.5 milligrams per serving.
Establishments who have purchased the 6 oz. packages of Dried Lily Flower can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-386-8996.
