Consumer Alert: Undeclared Sulfites in Rare Fowl & Sea Food
Flushing, NY - May 3, 2002 -- New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned sulfite-allergic consumers and asthmatics to avoid consuming "Rare Fowl & Sea Food" due to the presence of undeclared sulfites in the product.
The product was sold by Fu Zhow International Trade Corp., 135-37 40th Road, Flushing, New York 11354. "Rare Fowl & Sea Food" is packaged in a clear plastic bag with red, yellow and white trim. It is uncoded and all writing is in Chinese. It was sold in the Flushing, Queens, New York area.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites.
Sulfites can cause deadly reactions in asthmatics and others suffering sulfite allergies. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers who purchased "Rare Fowl & Sea Food" from Fu Zhow International Trade Corp. should return them to the place of purchase.
