Golden Chocolate Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Eggs in Raisin Pound Cake

Brooklyn, NY - November 30, 2001 -- Golden Chocolate International Inc. of Brooklyn, NY is recalling Raisin Pound Cake in 14 oz. and 2 lb. loaves because it contained undeclared eggs. People who have an allergy to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The Raisin Pound Cake was distributed to retail stores throughout Brooklyn, NY.

The Raisin Pound Cake was wrapped in clear, cellophane packages without any codes, in 14 oz. and 2 lb. sizes. This product has a shelf life of 7-14 days. The recall covers product that did not list eggs in the ingredient statement. Product labeling has been revised. Product that declares eggs on the labeling is not affected by this recall.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after the State of Florida discovered that the product containing eggs was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of eggs. A follow up inspection by the FDA revealed that the problem was due to an error by the manufacturer to declare eggs on the product label.

Consumers who have purchased Raisin Pound Cake that does not declare eggs are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-718-330-1000.
