Granite State Artesian Bottled Water Recalled Due to the Presence of Coliforms

Concord, NH - July 12, 2002 -- The New Hampshire Department of Health & Human Services' Bureau of Food Protection has ordered the recall of Granite State Artesian bottled water due to the presence of coliforms found in water samples tested this week. Coliforms are rod-shaped bacteria that can cause illness in humans.

The bottled water, produced by Turner's Dairy in Salem, NH, is distributed in Massachusetts and in nine New Hampshire stores located in Nashua, Manchester, Pelham, Salem, and East Derry. All stores have been notified to remove the water from their shelves.

People who have bottles of Granite State Artesian water at home or work are asked to return the bottled water to the store where it was purchased.

Those individuals who have questions about this recall or about coliforms can call the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services at 800-852-3345.
