FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Passaic, NJ -- July 3, 2003 -- HERMANOS BAKERY CORP., located at 3436 STATE STREET, is recalling MERENGUITOS because it may contain undeclared eggs. Consumers who are allergic to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled Merenguitos weigh 1/16 oz. and are packaged in hard plastic containers. The expiration date on the package is November 20, 2003. Merenguitos were sold in NY, PA, NJ, and CT.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the presence of undeclared eggs in Merenguitos which did not declare eggs as an ingredient on the label.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Consumers who are allergic to eggs and purchase Merenguitos are urged to return them to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 973-471-9911.
