Islands Bakery Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg in Some Varieties of Islands Bakery Brand Bread and Trader Joe's Brand Multi Seed Bread

Arlington, WA - October 26, 2001 -- Islands Bakery of Arlington, WA is recalling Trader Joe's Brand Multi Seed Bread and the following Islands Bakery Brand loaf breads because they may contain undeclared egg: Old Fashion Oat, Sunflower Barley, Honey Wheat, Wheat Berry, 7 Grain, Health, Seed, Jalapeno Cheese, Honey Spelt, White, Wheat, Caraway Rye, Sourdough French, Cracked Wheat, Multi Grain, Oat & Wheat Berry and Apricot Walnut. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Islands Bakery Brand breads and Trader Joe's Brand Multi Seed Bread are distributed in the greater Puget Sound, WA area in retail stores.

The loaf breads are in clear bags with a white paper label dated in the right bottom corner 10 31 or earlier.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg containing products were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs. All egg use has been discontinued unless so labeled.
