Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe Dried Fruit Mix Recalled Due to Undeclared Sulfites

Brooklyn, NY - March 14, 2002 -- Klein's Naturals Ltd, located at 4702 2nd Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11232, is recalling 8 oz. packages of Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe dried fruit mix, because the product contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe is distributed in a tampered proof sealed 8 oz clear plastic container. Product was distributed in the New York and New Jersey.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors that the product containing sulfites, was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Fruity Deluxe revealed that it contained 54.5 milligrams per serving.

Establishments and consumers who have purchased the 8 oz packaging of Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with question may contact the company at 718-499-4299.
