Consumer Alert - Vegetarian Chicken Salad

New York - October 6, 2000 - State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today issued an alert to consumers who are sensitive to eggs not to consume Earthly Eats Brand Vegetarian Chicken Salad manufactured by Larus Enterprises, Inc., 778 Seneca Avenue, Ridgewood, NY 11385 because it has been found to contain undeclared eggs. The manufacturer who believes that none of the product remains in the marketplace has nevertheless agreed to voluntarily recall the product.

The Department's Division of Food Safety and Inspection sampled and tested the product revealing the presence of undeclared eggs. The Vegetarian Chicken Salad is packaged in a 6.5 oz. clear plastic tub with a plastic lid and a small sticker indicating the Code 10-02. The product was distributed in the New York Metropolitan area.

The consumption of eggs by allergic individuals has been reported to elicit severe reactions. Life threatening anaphylactic shock can occur in certain egg sensitive individuals upon consumption of eggs and products containing eggs.

No illnesses or adverse reaction resulting from the consumption of this product have been reported.

Consumers who are allergic to eggs and may have purchased these products should not consume them. They should either discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
