Consumer Alert: Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts

Brooklyn, NY - March 10, 2003 -- State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers announced today that Lion Pavilion Ltd., 518 Gardner Ave., Brooklyn, New York 11222 is recalling "Vegetables with Hot Oil" because they contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled product is packed in 280-gram glass jars with codes 2002-07-31 and 2002-11-15. The Nutrition Facts Panel is in English; all other writing is in Asian.

"Vegetables with Hot Oil" were distributed to retail stores in the New York City metropolitan area. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

The recall was initiated after New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors found that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packages that did not reveal the presence of peanuts.

Consumers who have purchased "Vegetables with Hot Oil" are urged to return them to the place of purchase.
