Marigold Foods Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Nuts in Ice Cream

NOTE: The brand name of the recalled product is Kemps Old Fashioned Ice Cream, not Kemps Premium Ice Cream. On Oct. 2, Marigold Foods of Minneapolis, Minnesota announced it was recalling Kemps Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (labeled Kemps Old Fashioned Ice Cream) half gallons because it may have contained undeclared nuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews, filberts, hazelnuts, or almonds run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they consume this product. No allergic reactions have been reported to date.

Minneapolis, MN - October 2, 2002 -- Marigold Foods, of Minneapolis, Minnesota is recalling Kemps Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Ice Cream half gallons because it may contain undeclared nuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews, filberts, hazelnuts or almonds run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product. No allergic reactions have been reported to date.

This ice cream was distributed through supermarkets in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. This recall affected only oval paper half gallons with the code date: 196-2-2 printed on the rim of the lid. This product was manufactured at plant #27-621. The UPC bar code for this product was 41483-02819.

Consumers were told to return the ice cream to the place of purchase for a full remind. Consumers with questions may still contact Marigold Foods at 1-800-726-6455.
