January 4, 2001 - Hommarus/Marshall Smoked Fish, Inc. requests all consumers return to the store where the following product was originally purchased with the following batch code numbers:

This product was distributed at retail stores in New York. You will receive a full refund for all products returned to the stores. This product is being recalled because of a possible health risk due to the potential of being contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, which was identified by routine sampling. NO ILLNESSES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO DATE. This organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fevers, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
