McKee Foods Corp. Recalls Little Debbie® Salted Peanuts Due to Undeclared Cashews

Collegedale, Tenn. - June 19, 2002 -- McKee Foods Corporation, of Collegedale, Tenn., is recalling its 1-ounce packages of Little Debbie® Salted Peanuts because they may contain undeclared cashews. People who have allergies to cashews run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled peanuts were distributed through retail stores in the following states:

Arkansas Maryland Ohio
Florida Michigan Pennsylvania
Georgia Missouri South Carolina
Illinois Mississippi Tennessee
Indiana North Carolina Virginia
Kentucky New Jersey West Virginia
Louisiana New York Wisconsin

The product is packaged in a 1-ounce, plastic bag with the code: Sell by: SEP02 06 04 A4.

The product is manufactured for, and distributed by, McKee Foods. No other Little Debbie® products are affected.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

This product is being recalled because it may contain cashews, which are not on the ingredient list. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the supplier's production and packaging process.

Consumers who have purchased 1-ounce packages of Little Debbie® Salted Peanuts with this code are urged to contact the McKee Foods consumer affairs department at 1-800-522-4499.
