Middle East Treasures Import Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in "Nany Coconut Candy"

South Amboy, NJ - February 11, 2002 -- Middle East Treasures of South Amboy, New Jersey is recalling its 4 ounce packages of Nany Coconut Candy Food treats because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "Nany Coconut Candy" was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. The product comes in a 4 ounce, clear plastic package marked with the product name "Nany Coconut" on the top and with an expiration date of July, 2002 stamped on the side.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by NY State Agriculture and Markets Food inspectors discovered that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts.

Consumers who have purchased 4-ounce packages of "Nany Coconut Candy" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 732-727-6377.
