Norpaco Inc., Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfite in 32 oz. Sun Dried Tomatoes

BRISTOL, CT - January 19, 2001 - Norpaco is recalling 32 oz. Plastic containers of sun dried tomatoes with code number 109050, because it may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious allergic reaction if they consume this product. All other sizes are properly labeled.

Product was distributed to 14 Costco stores in New York State and has since been discontinued.

The 32 oz. plastic is the only container mislabeled.

There are no reported illnesses.

An error occurred in printing the label of the 32 oz. size omitting this ingredient. All other labels conform to industry standards. Norpaco initiated the recall after it was discovered that the product containing sulfites was distributed in packaging and did not reveal the presence of the sulfite. Production has been corrected and new product is being correctly labeled.

Consumers with allergies are urged to return the product to Costco or Norpaco for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Norpaco at (860) 584-4780.
