The Nut Boy Company Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in "Tropics Mix" and "Banana Nut Mix"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Sylmar, CA-- September 3, 2003 -- The Nut Boy Company of Sylmar, CA is alerting the public that its 16-ounce packages of Tropics Mix and Banana Nut Trail Mix may contain undeclared sulfites. People who have allergies to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Product was distributed in southern California in retail locations such as Ralph's Grocery.

Tropics Mix is sold in the clear plastic bags with a teal and white label bearing the code number 3212. Banana Nut Trail Mix is also sold in clear plastic bags but have a yellow and white label with the code number 3188.

No illnesses have been reported.

This recall was initiated after it was discovered that this product containing the sulfites was distributed with labels that did not include the sulfites in the ingredient list. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging departments.

Consumers who have purchased Tropics Mix or Banana Nut Trail Mix and are allergic to sulfites may return the empty bag containing the code number 3212 or 3188 on the label for a full refund.
