The Olson Baking Company Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg Whites in the 12 Pack Brown's Sugarless Bakery Oatmeal Spice Cookies
Lynnwood, Washington - January 9, 2002 -- The Olson Baking Company is voluntarily recalling their 12 pack Browns Sugarless Bakery Oatmeal Spice Cookies because it contains undeclared egg whites. Consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg whites may run the risk of serious or life threatening reaction if they consume this product.
The Brown's Sugarless Bakery Oatmeal Spice Cookies were distributed in Western Washington, Oregon, Florida, Southeast Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Northern Illinois. This product is available to the consumer through retail stores.
The product being recalled was packaged as a 12 pack in clear plastic hinged containers under the Browns Sugarless Bakery label. Product received or purchased by the consumer prior to January 4th, 2002 can be considered packaged with an incorrect label. This product does not bear a manufacturing code. No other brands, products or sizes are included in this recall.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this voluntary recall.
The problem with the label was discovered after a random sampling program, conducted by the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Affairs. The recall was initiated voluntarily once the incorrect label was discovered. Labels are in the process of being corrected and all future products being distributed will have the corrected labels.
