Allergen Alert: Goldup Dry Mango Slices

Maspeth, NY - April 17, 2002 -- PEXCO INC, 55-64 56th St, Maspeth, NY 11378 is recalling Goldup Brand Dry Mango Slices because the product contains undeclared sulfites. The product is packaged in 5.25 oz. (150g) plastic bags. The product is imported from India.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Product was distributed in NY, NJ, CT, and MD. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by a New York State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector revealed that the product contained sulfites that were not indicated on the product label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock can occur in certain sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of Goldup Dry Mango Slices revealed that it contained 15.6 milligrams of sulfite per serving.

Consumers who have 5.25 oz. (150g) plastic packages of Goldup Dry Mango Slices can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-786-9191.
