Kennett Square, PA - April 11, 2002 -- Phillips Mushroom Farms of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is voluntarily recalling its 3-ounce packages of Dried Wild Pasta Blend Mushrooms because the sun-dried tomatoes contain high levels of sulfite. People who have a severe sensitivity to sulfites may run the risk of serious allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled Pasta Blend Mushrooms were distributed nationwide in retail stores and are sold under Phillips Mushroom Farms, Elite, and Southmill Mushroom Sales, Inc. labels.

The product comes in a 3-ounce, clear plastic package.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector discovered that the sun-dried tomatoes in the mushroom blend package contain excessive levels of sulfites, but did not declare the presence of sulfites on the label.

Consumers who have purchased 3-ounce packages of Pasta Blend Mushrooms are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-243-8644.
