Pinnacle Foods Corp. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Soy Protein in Great Starts Breakfast Sandwich

Mountain Lakes, NJ - August 23, 2002 -- Pinnacle Foods Corporation of Mountain Lakes, NJ is recalling Great Starts Biscuit Sandwich ('Egg, Cheese & Bacon on a Biscuit' item only). Due to package mislabeling, some of these sandwiches may contain a sausage patty instead of bacon. The sausage contains soy protein. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy protein may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The Great Starts Bacon Biscuit sandwich may have been distributed nationally through retail stores and food service outlets.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that some cartons labeled as Egg Cheese & Bacon on a Biscuit may contain a sausage patty instead of bacon. The sausage patty contains soy protein that is not listed on the Bacon sandwich label.

The UPC code for the Egg Cheese & Bacon on a Biscuit is 51000 06381. Production coding on the carton states: Recommended Use by: OCT 03 07162.

Consumers who have purchased Great Starts Egg, Cheese & Bacon on a Biscuit are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-554-5680.
