Renaissance Bakery Issues an Alert for Undeclared Walnuts in "Apple Harvest" Bread

Corona, NY - May 22, 2002 -- Renaissance Bakery of Corona, New York, is recalling 24 oz. packages of "Apple Harvest" Bread with labels that do not declare WALNUTS as an ingredient. People who have allergies to Walnuts can run the risk of serious life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled bread was distributed to approximately 7 independent markets in the New York City area between 5/8 & 5/18 2002. It is estimated that 15 packages are included in this alert.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the walnut containing product was distributed in packaging that did not disclose the presence of walnuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was due to a temporary breakdown in the company's label printing process. The problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased the "Apple Harvest" bread are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-335-9539.
