Rhee Bros., Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg in 'Homerun Ball' Brand 'Korean Cookies'

Columbia, MD - July 30, 2002 -- RHEE BROS., INC. of Columbia, MD, is recalling its 1.62 ounce packages of 'Homerun Ball' brand 'Korean Cookies' because they may contain undeclared egg. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled 'Homerun Ball' brand 'Korean Cookies' was distributed in retail stores on the east coast. The product comes in 1.62 ounce package marked with 'Homerun Ball' and 'Korean Cookies'. Its item number is 09450K on the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after sampling by 'New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets' food inspectors discovered that the egg-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the labeling processes. Even though it was mentioned in the Korean version, it was missing on the English label. Wholesale distribution of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the label has been replaced with a corrected label.

Consumers who have purchased 1.62 ounce packages of 'Homerun Ball' brand 'Korean Cookies' are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-410-381-9000.
