FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Bronx, NY -- March 2, 2004 -- New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned sulfite-allergic consumers and asthmatics to avoid consuming "Running Wolf Trail Mix" due to the presence of undeclared sulfites in the product.
The product is being recalled by J & Y Market Corp., 3789 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, New York 10465. "Running Wolf Trail Mix" is packaged in a 10-ounce plastic container with attached lid and bears code "Date: July 01 04". "Running Wolf Trail Mix" was sold in the Bronx, New York area.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label.
Sulfites can cause deadly reactions in asthmatics and others suffering sulfite allergies. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers who have purchased "Running Wolf Trail Mix" should return it to the place of purchase.
