Sincere Trading Co. Recalls Dried Plum Due to Undeclared Sulfites

Brooklyn, NY -- March 26, 2003 -- Sincere Trading Co., Inc., located at 328 Ten Eyck Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11206 is recalling 5oz plastic bags of Dried Plum because the product contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

The Dried Plum, a product of China, was distributed to retail stores in Connecticut, Georgia, Montana, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Illinois in an uncoded 5oz plastic bag.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors that the product containing sulfites was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions is some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingestion 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Dried Plum revealed that it contained greater than 10mg of sulfites per serving.

Establishments and consumers who have purchased the 5oz plastic bag of Dried Plum can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the Company at (718)628-6600.
