Sophia Foods Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in "E. Wedel Delicje-Szampanskie-Pomaranczowe" Biscuits Topped With Jam and Fine Chocolate
Brooklyn, NY - June 13, 2002 -- Sophia Foods Inc., 480 Wortman Avenue, Brooklyn
New York 11208, is recalling its 150-gram (5.3 oz) packages of "E. WEDEL
DELICJE-SZAMPANSKIE-POMARANCZOWE" BISCUITS TOPPED WITH JAM AND FINE CHOCOLATE
because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts
run
the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these
products.
The recalled biscuits were distributed to retail stores in the New York Metropolitan area. The product comes in a 150-gram (5.3 oz) blue and orange uncoded package. It is a product of Poland.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors discovered that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Distribution of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.
Consumers who have purchased 150-gram (5.3 oz) packages of "E. WEDEL DELICJE-SZAMPANSKIE-POMARANCZOWE"
BISCUITS TOPPED WITH JAM AND FINE CHOCOLATE are urged to return them to the
place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the
