Spice It Foods Recalls Sage Due to Possible Health Risks

Lakewood, NJ - July 5, 2002 -- Spice It Foods, Inc. of Lakewood, NJ is recalling the 3 oz. Supersize container of "ground Sage" because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, in young children, frail and elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The product comes in a 2 oz. Supersize container with a label code of 0101 which is visible when peel back the bottom label overlap. Also, any sage with the code beginning 02 107. This code can be found between the label and the cap. Again, only the Sage with that particular label date or code is being recalled. All other Sage products are clean.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased 2 oz. bottles of Sage with either the above codes are urged to return them to Spice It Foods.
